  1.      This is the new version 1.5 of startup.  It now includes a nice
  2. feature when used with ethe loader program (STARTUP.PRG).  This nice feature
  3. benefits users with both color and monochrome systems.  The command is
  4. setdesktop and will automatically load in a specific desktop file instead
  5. of the standard desktop.inf file whn GEM is loaded.  Depending upon the
  6. screen resolution at the time the program exits, either DESKTOP.HI,
  7. DESKTOP.MED, or DESKTOP.LOW will be loaded instead of DESKTOP.INF so you 
  8. don't even need the file DESKTOP.INF anymore.  This is quite useful if
  9. you switch between color and monochrome systems and don't wan't to keep
  10. moving all of the icons everytime you boot.
  11.      The other new feature is the addition of three new variables.  They
  12. are $alt, $shift, and $control.  When these variables are referenced, they
  13. will contain "on" if the the associated key is pressed, or "off" if it
  14. isn't pressed.  This is useful when you want to run certain programs say
  15. only if you are currently holding down the ALT key.  Look at the sample
  16. startup.inf file included in the ARC for an example.  (It's the startup.inf
  17. file that I boot up with).
